Our Story

From its humble beginnings, year after year, Cambridge House has continuously developed its facilities, resources and teaching methodology to evolve for the needs of the modern learners of today and is now regarded as one of the best schools in Spain.

We were extremely proud to be awarded the British International School of the Year Award in 2014 by the ISA (International Schools Association). The school was the first in Spain to gain both BSO (British School Overseas) and NABSS (National Association for British Schools in Spain) accreditation in 2012, hallmarks of educational excellence. What have remained unchanged are the aims and objectives and the dedication of the teaching staff, which are the same as when the school was founded in 1986 with an initial enrolment of ten three-year-olds.

The school was founded by Tracy and her husband Ray, both of them teachers, in a small country house in 1986 with a grand total of ten 3 year olds! Their wish was to create a school capable of bringing together the best of both the Spanish and the British educational systems. Thanks to humble beginnings we attracted parents for the right reason; the great majority of our parents have always been public servants working in educational or medical sectors. Our parents are highly educated themselves and value our methodology above all.

For Ray, the most important values to be developed in the children were those of perseverance, self-discipline and the decision-making skills needed to achieve a stated objective, while for Tracy essential values were the ability to take initiative, independence, creativity and a positive attitude to life.

During those first twenty years, these values became woven into the very fabric of the school as it grew and evolved, with a huge amount of hard work and effort on the part of everyone. Sadly, the school lost one of its founders, Ray, who passed away in 1991; however, thanks to its continual development, it has increasingly gained the dedication and expertise of more than one hundred professionals who now run the school, and who are very much loved by parents and children alike. The school now numbers over 1600 on roll and yet welcomes visits on a daily basis from both former students and parents who will always be part of the Cambridge House family.

We look forward, with enthusiasm, to the next 30 years!
